Introduction

Maktab is a term that commonly refers to supplementary classes for children of compulsory school age. The Maktab system ensures that children acquire a good understanding of their Deen by ensuring the provision of a broad and balanced curriculum, covering primary aspects of Islam and its foundational teachings, ultimately empowering Muslim children with the aptitude to practise Islam in an informed and correct manner.

Structure

There are two core strands to the Maktab curriculum: Qur’anic Studies and Islamic Essentials.

Qur’anic Studies is largely dedicated to the correct recitation of the Holy Qur’an including the rules and application of Tajweed. Islamic Essentials encompasses basic laws of worship, history, beliefs, etiquettes, and lessons from the Qur’an and Hadith among other topics.

Assessment

Pupils are assessed daily within lessons, and two formal examinations are held each academic year.
