LoK 2nd In Latest GCSE League Table 2012/13

Outstanding GCSE Results for LoK: 82%

Alhumdulillah, yet again Lantern of Knowledge is celebrating an amazing year of GCSE results.

82% of our GCSE pupils this academic year 2012/13 attained 5 or more A*-C grades including English and Mathematics.These results are some way above local and national rates of attainment, as is the case with GCSE results for previous years. Well done to all our staff, pupils and parents.

Lantern of Knowledge has been the Bronze STARS Award 2013 from the London Borough of Waltham Forest.

In a letter to the school, the Interim Senior Road safety Officer for the borough wrote:

‘Congratulations once again to you and your team, and we look forward to seeing you continue your travel plan objectives and assist more pupils travel safely and sustainably to school.’

End of Year Trip to Stubbers Activity Park

For the annual school trip, LoK headed down the A406 to Stubbers Activity Park. On a beautiful summer’s day, the boys were pushed to their absolute physical limits, with numerous tough and testing physical activities, which included raft building, zip wiring, archery and more.

LoK Pupils Visit Local Church

Our pupils visited St Mary’s Church, Leyton. As citizens of a truly diverse world, it is vital we gain an understanding of other beliefs and cultures of all other people in not only this country, but throughout the world. Lantern of Knowledge pupils took part in exciting workshops based on the following themes:  ‘Research Matters’ and ‘Map Your World’. Our Year 7  and 9 pupils took part in exciting workshops based on the following themes:  ‘Research Matters’ and ‘Map Your World’. Three Faiths Forum Visit

In 2013, students from St. Bonaventure’s School visited Lantern of Knowledge as part of the ongoing Three Faiths Forum school linking project. Headed by our Citizenship teacher, a group of Year 9 students visit other schools and partake in numerous activities with students there, to create a bond, understanding and culture of respect between the different faith and community groups.

Lantern of Knowledge pupils  took part in a guided, detailed tour of the Houses of Parliament, consisting of the House of Commons and the House of Lords. Our pupils visited the Royal Courts of Justice, off the Shard, near Holborn. The purpose of the visit, was to initially go for a tour of the Historical building, whilst the day to day proceedings of the court were being carried out, for instance, court cases etc with real judges, barristers and so on, time and again crossing paths with the boys. The Skills Show is the UK’s biggest skills and careers event, shining a spotlight on the success that talented young people can find through various qualifications.
